India's EB-2 Cut-Off Dates will Advance

Department of State's Chief of Immigrant Visa Control and Reporting Division Charlie Oppenheim has announced that there has been a decline in EB-1 filings. This means that about 12,000 unused EB-1 category numbers will be made available for the EB-2 category. This is expected to directly impact mostly Indian nationals and will advance the India EB-2 cut-off date.
H and L Visa Appointments No Longer Available at the Mumbai Consulate

Effective March 7, 2011, new H or L visa category appointments are no longer available at the U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai. New appointments should be scheduled at other embassies in India. Previously scheduled appointments will be honored. A new consulate is being constructed and is scheduled to open later this year after which normal operations will resume.
DOS Visa Policy Update: Guidance on L Visas and Specialized Knowledge

Registration Period Closed for DV Lottery 2012

DOS has stopped accepting electronic registrations for the DV Lottery for fiscal year 2012 at 12:00 pm EDT (GMT -4) on Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
Department of State Releases Visa Bulletin for November 2010

The Department of State (DOS) has recently released the Visa Bulletin for November 2010. In November, priority date cut-offs for most backlogged employment-based preference categories will advance by one to two weeks.
Diversity Visa Lottery for FY2012 Starts October 5, 2010

Foreign nationals who want to enter the Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 Diversity Visa Lottery (DV Lottery) can begin to submit their applications beginning Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 12:00pm EDT (GMT -4) until 12:00pm EDT (GMT -4) on Wednesday, November 3, 2010.

State Department Announces Online Immigrant Visa Application

The US Department of State (DOS) has announced Form DS-260, a new, completely electronic application for foreign nationals seeking immigrant visas at U.S. consulates abroad. Form DS-260 is expected eventually to replace Form DS-230, the paper-based immigrant visa application.
Fee for Visa Waiver Program Increases from September 8

Beginning September 8, 2010, foreign nationals planning to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) will need to pay a new fee of US$14.00 when they submit an application for permission to travel through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
Nonimmigrant Visa Application Fees to Increase from June 4

The Department of State published an interim final rule in the Federal Register on May 20, 2010 to increase nonimmigrant visa application processing fees, also called the Machine-Readable Visa (MRV) fee, and Border Crossing Card (BCC) fees. The interim final rule also establishes a tiered structure with separate fees for different nonimmigrant visa categories. The new fees are scheduled to go into effect on June 4, 2010.
