On April 13, 2015, USCIS conducted the H1B visa 2016 lottery to select enough petitions to meet the 65,000 regular cap and 20,000 under the advanced degree exemption cap.

2. H1B Visa Lottery FY 2015

During the H1B Cap 2015 filing period that began on April 1, 2014 USCIS received approximately 172,500 H1B petitions including petitions filed under the advanced degree exemption.

On April 10, 2014, USCIS conducted the H1B visa 2015 lottery to select enough petitions to meet the 65,000 regular cap and 20,000 under the advanced degree exemption cap.

3. H1B Lottery FY 2014

USCIS received approximately 124,000 H1B Cap petitions during the first 5 business days filing period between April 1 and April 5, 2013.

USCIS conducted the H-1B lottery on April 7, 2013 and began the premium processing for H1B cap cases on April 15, 2013.

It was the first time since 2008 (FY 2009) that the H1B Cap has reached during the initial filing period.

4. H1B Lottery FY 2009

USCIS received approximately 163,000 H1B petitions during the first five business days of the H1B Visa Cap filing period between April 1 and April 7, 2008.

USCIS conducted the H1B lottery on April 14, 2008. USCIS also ‘wait-listed’ some H1B petitions as potential replacements for H1B petitions chosen in the H1B lottery results but were subsequently denied, withdrawn, or otherwise found ineligible.

5. H1B Lottery FY 2008

USCIS received 123,480 H1B Cap petitions during the filing period that lasted for just two days - April 2 and 3, 2007 (April 1 was a Sunday).

USCIS conducted the random H1B lottery on April 12, 2007 to select the required number of H1B Cap petitions for final processing. The 15-day premium processing period for selected H1B Cap petitions also began on April 12, 2007.
