What is up with priority dates for India
hi! Could someone please let me know why priority date for family based 3rd preference is moving "May be" 10 days/month? where is 4th preference is moving 2 months/month?
My mom has applied for her married daughters since May 2001, they still haven't heard anything from US embassy in India.
Please help clarify things for me. I will really really appreciate any info

The current proprity date for 3rd preference India is November 1, 2000. If your mother filed for her married daughters in May 2001, their priority date is not yet current.

Ronnie,
thanks for your response, but that is very obvious that the priority date is not current. I want to know why is it moving only 10 days/month? and why 4th category if moving like 2 months/month? I also know that it could be due to number of application of those categories and visa quota available per year for those categories. But my parents and sisters are furstrated with the wait...it is just TOO long...

Only a certain number of visas are available per country each year in each preference category. When more people apply, the longer the wait. Only the Congress can increase the number of visas issued each year. They have shown no inclination to do so. Your parents and sisters will just have to be patient and wait their turn in line.

Re: What is up with priority dates for India
Ronnie,
Thanks so much. Could you please let me know when their new fiscal year starts? It seems like it does move a little faster in the begining of each fiscal year and then it slows down.
My sisters' date is May 31st, 2001 and current priority date for India is Nov 1st, 2000. Can I hope for them to be here next year???

The new fiscal year begins on Oct. 1. No one knows what the priority dates will be in the future. They don't have to always go forward. The priority dates, could in fact, go in the other direction.
