Default Removal Proceedings (F-1 holder married to USC)

My husband and I got married over a year ago. I have been in the country for 7 years not but got kicked out of school and got my passport taken by ICE since I am out of status. When they took my passport they advised me to send in the GC papers as soon as possible. Now I have the hearing on Oct 1st, can't afford a lawyer and need some advise. Am I gonna be kicked out of the country? I have been here for seven years and never been fell out of status and have no criminal record. Is there anything I can do that would be helpful? Is not having a lawyer really bad? Please Help!
