Exclamation HELP - J1 change of employer?

Hello,

I am currently doing an internship in a very small company which is undergoing very serious financial difficulties. Several employees have been laid off and the doors of the company could eventually close if the situation does not improve fast. I have a J1 visa, category trainee. I know that you are not supposed to change of company with a J1. But I have heard that it may be possible to change of employer in very special situations.

What can I do in my case? Change of employer before they have to lay me off. Wait until the company closes the doors if it has to happen, forget about my J1 and go back home (that would be very sad)?

If I am able to change of employer, could I extend my J1 at the same time?

Thank you very much for your help

AS

Hi AS,

My ex co-worker changed the company under her J-1 Visa. It works, but it's hard. First at all you need another company who would hire you. Also it would be good if your current company would allow you to change the company. (My current company didn't allow my friend to change the company. She had a lot of trouble because of that.) You should call the organisation with which you applied for this visa. (GACC for example) Explain them the situation and they should help you. I don't how to get an extension. I'm working on that myself at the moment.
Hope that helped you a bit,
bye,
Heike

I think if you're on a J1 trainee visa and the company you work for is experiencing financial problems, then you have more chances that your sponsorship organization would approve a change of employer.

BTW is there someone doing a career training sponsored by Intrax?

Default J1 transfer

Hi, I met problem. Currently I am holding J1 Visa in a university. I find a new job in another university, but my current sponsor did not allow to tranfer out my J1. Is there anyone ever experiencing same problem. Can I check out and then apply for the reinstatement. But I am not sure I can get it approve. Since they will consider the request that suspension or termination from the most recent exchange visitor program. I will greatly appreciate it, if some one may tell me how to deal with this problem.

Thanks a lot
