1. The P-3 Visa For Teachers
The P-3 visa category applies to foreign nationals coming temporarily to the U.S. to perform, teach or coach as an artist or entertainer under a program that is culturally unique. Thus, foreign national art teachers and trainers imparting education or training under a program that is culturally unique may explore seeking a P-3 visa.
In order to be eligible to seek a P-3 visa, the foreign national teacher must be coming to the U.S. either individually or as a group for the purpose of coaching or teaching a unique or traditional ethnic, folk, cultural, musical, theatrical, or artistic performance, art form or presentation. In addition, they must be coming to the U.S. to participate in a cultural event or events which will further the understanding or development of their art form.

1.On a P-3 visa, foreign national teachers will be given the time needed to complete their activity, but not exceeding 1 year.
2.Spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 may obtain P-4 status, and may attend school or college in the U.S. but they cannot engage in employment in P-4 status.
2. The O-1 Visa For Teachers
The O-1 visa category applies to foreign nationals who possess extraordinary ability in the field of sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics. To qualify for an O-1 visa, the foreign national must demonstrate extraordinary ability by sustained national or international acclaim. Extraordinary Ability in the field of education means a level of expertise indicating that the person is one of a small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor. It is a very high standard, and only the most talented individuals will qualify for an O-1 visa for teachers.
Foreign nationals on an O-1 visa may be admitted for a period of up to three years initially. Extensions may be granted in increments of up to 1 year.
Spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 of the foreign national teacher may obtain O-3 status, and may attend school or college in the US but they cannot engage in employment.
3. R-1 Visa For Teachers
The R-1 visa category applies to foreign nationals coming to the U.S. temporarily to be employed by a non-profit religious organization in the U.S. to work as a minister or in a religious vocation or occupation, which includes professionals such as teachers. Note that the position must be religious in nature – teaching math in a religious school may not qualify.
To qualify for an R-1 visa, the foreign national teacher must have been a member of the religious denomination having a bona fide non-profit religious organization in the U.S. for at least 2 years immediately preceding the filing of the petition.

1.Foreign nationals on an R-1 visa may be granted an initial period of admission of up to 30 months, and an extension may be granted for up to an additional 30 months, but their total stay in the U.S. in R-1 status cannot exceed 60 months (five years).
2.The spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 of a religious worker may be eligible for R-2 classification, but they cannot engage in employment on an R-2 status.
4. Q-1 Visa For Teachers
The Q-1 visa category is for international cultural exchange programs designated by USCIS (as opposed to the J-1, which is designated by the Department of State).
A foreign national teacher may be eligible for the Q-1 visa if they are seeking to participate in a cultural exchange program and the program’s purpose is to provide practical training or employment and to share the history, culture and traditions of the foreign national teacher’s home country. Among other requirements, the employer must show that the program activities will take place in a public setting so that the culture will be shared with the public.
An example of a position that may qualify for the Q-1 would be a language teacher.

1.On the Q-1 visa, a foreign national teacher may be admitted for an initial period of up to 15 months, which is also the maximum period of admission.
2.There is no dependent visa category for spouse or minor children.
