Temporary Protected Status Eligibility – It Is Suitable For:

  • Foreign nationals of designated countries, where an environmental disaster causes a substantial but temporary disruption of living conditions and the country is temporarily unable to handle the return of its nationals

Currently designated countries include El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Somalia and Sudan


Temporary Protected Status Notes

  • Foreign nationals in Temporary Protected Status (TPS) may accept employment in the U.S. by obtaining an Employment Authorization Document.
  • Foreign nationals in Temporary Protected Status (TPS) must receive advance permission to travel before leaving the U.S. in order to return to the U.S.
